November 2022 Honoree
Lauren Ruffin, RN
Our father was brought in with stroke-like symptoms after having a seizure. He couldn't eat or drink until having a swallow test. Speech therapy doesn't work on weekends, so he had not had food or water since Thursday evening. We told other nurses, but they said they'd have to see what could be done because he was NPO. When I told this particular nurse, she jumped into action! She got a speech therapist to test him on Sunday, and he was cleared to eat and drink. The nurse then put in orders for physical and speech therapy. She listened to our needs, and instantly acted to help our 84-year-old dad. She went above and beyond! This nurse treated our dad with so much compassion, and truly heard us! She had an awesome bedside manner too. She was friendly and sweet, all while being professional.
Thank you, Lauren, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
