Nurse Lauren Shockley drove upon a car accident and quickly realized the danger of a woman trapped under a vehicle. Lauren jumped out of her car to help. She asked someone to call 9-1-1 as a woman had been ejected from her vehicle and had her arm pinned under the car. Lauren told the lady not to move as she and others tried to lift the car. The driver of the car was upset and pacing the accident scene despite bleeding excessively. She had a small cut to her radial artery. Lauren asked a man for his shirt which she used to apply pressure and stop the bleeding then coaxed her to sit and try to calm down. The victim's husband had what looked like a compound fracture with bone exposure and was very pale. A physician from Baptist showed up and helped Lauren stabilize the man's arm. Lauren then waited for the paramedics to arrive and gave them report on the patients' injuries. Aside from helping to save their lives, Lauren demonstrated extraordinary compassionate care to those involved in the accident.
