... Lauren was ending her shift when an admission arrived on the unit. The patient was assigned to another nurse on the unit. Recognizing that the admitting nurse had a heavy load, Lauren stayed to help get the patient settled. The patient's condition deterioarated. She was having a STEMI, necessitating an urgent procedure in the cath lab. After recovering, the patient was discharged 8 days later. The patient's outcome could have been very different if Lauren had not stayed to help.
