Lauren Volhontseff, RN

I initially met Lauren as my wound care and ostomy nurse before my surgery for a colectomy. Lauren recognized my apprehension towards not only surgery, but the life-altering need for a colostomy. Not only was she a patient and amazing coach for bag cleaning and changes, but she also helped me with my concerns about having the side effects of the bag, such as sounds, smells, and stigma, in a middle school classroom where I teach. Lauren immediately calmed my anxieties, and our coaching sessions became a bright spot that I looked forward to during my 3-week stay at Legacy Salmon Creek. She often made a point to come by my room even after I “graduated” from her ostomy class to make sure my spirits stayed high and would always find a way to make me smile when I was down or felt like I was not making progress. It is Lauren’s kindness, dedication, and compassion that deserve her to be recognized with an award. She is an asset to her department and Legacy.
