Lauren offered to take her to the apartment and bring her back to Ochsner after she had completed her shift, knowing this would help both the patient and the mother.
Lauren is an Operations Coordinator for the 8th Floor - Acute Oncology/BMT Unit. She has been a nurse for 10 years all the time specializing in Oncology here at Ochsner. She naturally leads by example and often her good deeds are not shared with those around her. For example, she frequently takes patients' clothes home to wash as her patients are often admitted for weeks at a time and she has immense empathy for them. These little acts of kindness that she gives are often very meaningful to the patient and their caregiver.

Although she would never share this next story, I felt that I must as it shows her devotion and care she provides to patients. Lauren had an admitted patient who was staying at a nearby apartment after having a transplant 26 days prior. The patient was admitted unexpectedly from clinic and did not have all of her home medications. One of the drugs is not carried by Ochsner Pharmacy but is necessary for her treatment post-transplant. The patient's mother was trying to find a ride to the nearby apartment but couldn't secure anyone and would have to get an Uber. The mother seemed stressed over the situation especially since they did not have the extra financial means to do this. Instead, Lauren offered to take her to the apartment and bring her back to Ochsner after she had completed her shift, knowing this would help both the patient and the mother. The family was very appreciative of this gesture! Lauren is a role model for fellow nurses and I would like to highlight just one of her good deeds!
