Laurie Beck has been the Lactation Coordinator for the NICU since 2004. In 2015 Laurie served on the United States Lactation Consultant Association (USLCA) Board of Directors overseeing the Professional Development Committee. She coordinated monthly webinars for USLCA as their Professional Development Director and the Liaison for USLCA to the United States Breastfeeding Committee and attended meetings and conferences in Washington, D.C. Laurie attended the annual International Lactation Consultant Association's Conference for Networking and learning latest research available in July of 2015. Laurie has presented at USBC Conference on model lactation programs offered in the United States. As well as continuing to be a member of USLCA and Texas Breastfeeding Coalition, Laurie, has also agreed to the Board of Director for the Mothers' Milk Bank of Austin, Texas beginning 1-15-16 for a 3-year term. Laurie is also presently the Chair of March of Dimes Program Services Committee and she attends monthly meeting with March of Dimes on behalf of DCH. Laurie participates in March of Dimes activities such as March of Dimes Annual Walk, March of Dimes Signature Chef event, March of Dimes Community Baby Shower, and March of Dimes Movie Night and also oversees the March of Dimes NICU Family Support Program that is offered through grant money for the NICU.
With all that at hand, Laurie still manages to get quality time educating and encouraging mothers on the importance of breastfeeding and the benefits of mothers' own milk and how it positively impacts their infant. Laurie not only serves the NICU she also dedicates time on all the tower units, PICU, and hospital staff as well. Laurie Beck is an exceptional and caring nurse who positively impacts our patients by providing care, encouragement, and ongoing education to our patients' mothers.
