April 2023 Honoree
Laurie Bennett, RN
During my son’s recent admission, overnight, Laurie stepped in and took control whilst he required an emergency tracheostomy change. With junior staff looking after my son on the unit, Laurie recognized the situation and worked quickly to ensure my son had a clear airway whilst keeping everything under control. Due to my son’s medical complexities, he isn’t always the easiest to work work with. Laurie treated him with dignity, respect, and as an appropriate 13-year-old. Even with his complex medical and physical needs and inability to speak, my son has full understanding. Laurie took the time to talk to H, make him comfortable, and make him laugh. It takes a certain type of person to recognize my boy’s abilities and needs, and Laurie certainly was able to do this. Thank you Laurie. H and I really appreciate your support, time and outstanding abilities as a nurse, as well as your kindness and patience.
Thank you, Laurie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
