Laurie treated us like we were valuable to her, and that gave me so much comfort and peace.
As a new mother of a 6-day old infant, I was a crying mess and very anxious when my baby was admitted to the PICU. Laurie made a difference for me because she was compassionate, easy-going, informative, and genuine to us. She let me know the plans for the shift, informed me when the plans changed, like when the lab tech was coming in to draw my son’s blood. Laurie came into the room first, to inform me before she brought in the person from the lab. She made sure that my son was given 'soothies' prior to being poked and as a result, my son did not even cry. She treated us like we were valuable to her, and that gave me so much comfort and peace. She also brought in a bed for me to sleep on. Telling me that she would care for me, as a new mom. She cared for both of us, it was a lot of extra work for her that helped me to feel much less frightened. I am so thankful to her.
