Caring for someone who is compliant is one thing. Caring for someone who is difficult takes an extra dose of graciousness. And Laurie Ennen displayed just that while helping a patient suffering from the beginning stages of dementia.
Laurie’s patient seemed confused and aggravated as her family tried to bring her to the Emergency Department for treatment. Laurie’s nominator – the patient’s daughter – was moved by Laurie’s exceptional attitude and care. “Laurie was the epitome of patience, care and concern in spite of my mother’s behavior,” the nominator said.
With a soft, comforting and patient tone, Laurie explained every step of care to the patient, who was having difficulty remembering information, and she did not hesitate to repeat herself when asked. “Thank you, Saint Agnes, for having nurses of Laurie’s caliber … I know my mom was much calmer as a result of Laurie’s kindness.”
