Laurie is often recognized by her peers and her patients for going above and beyond and being a great advocate for her patients. She has great nursing instincts, knows her patients well, and does a great job at preventing re-hospitalizations. Laurie is a nurse that cares for each of her patients like they were a family member. She has a natural and gentle spirit that allows patients to be more at peace with their situation while she stays calm and focused.
Recently I had the opportunity to do a visit with her to a long term patient of hers who had many needs. His wife was elderly like him and had difficulties doing all the care that he needed. Laurie went above and beyond for this patient doing as much for him when she was there performing her nursing skills, to ease the caregiver's burden. While she was caring for this patient Laurie generously agreed to work in another area where we were having increased patient needs. She continued to drive farther in her day to continue caring for this patient to provide continuity of care. Laurie provided warmth and understanding to this patient, spending time with his family, listening and providing support to the family for the patient's chronic disease and end of life care. This patient has since passed and recognized Laurie for being their rock during the last months of his life. The difference she made in his life is something for her to be very proud of.
Laurie is also a great advocate for new nurses, working as a preceptor, they appreciate being trained by her as she is very knowledgeable, and a great team player. Laurie does not cut corners when providing care to her patients, she does what is necessary for each and every patient even at great sacrifice to her personal time.

Thank you, Laurie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
