You have a great employee in Laurie Zepeda. She is a very caring nurse to all her patients. I was concerned about my husband's weight and the amount of medication he was taking. His bed was not reading his weight accurately. I asked Laurie if there is a way he can be weighed correctly? She took it upon herself to get a wheelchair accessible scale to weigh my husband. Other staff members did not know about the scale she was looking for, and Laurie knew there was one.

Laurie went to the other floor, got the scale, and brought it to the fifth floor north. She weighed my husband when he got into his wheelchair. Later that day, when my husband got back into bed, she weighed just the wheelchair, and we had figured out his weight. Laurie is very compassionate about her patients. Laurie does a wonderful job going above and beyond to get answers. This was very exceptional to me, for her to take extra time for one patient. Laurie cares about all her patients and the patient's needs.

I was also concerned about my husband's weight loss; if his medications he was being given at the wrong dosage, it might be due to the weight loss. Laurie took the time to go over his drug list, and she would talk to the doctor about this. Laurie was able to answer my questions and find out if this was an issue. There were days I would sit with my husband, and he was very drowsy all day long. I was very concerned. Found out later through my husband that he was given a sleeping pill around two am for the muscle spasms in his legs. To me, a sleeping pill that late would cause a patient to sleep most of the day. Laurie was able to contact the doctor and discuss my husband taking a mild muscle relaxer. The change in my husband was huge. He did not want to sleep all day. Laurie cares about all her patients.

Laurie takes the time to listen to spouses to help. Laurie forms a special connection with her patients. Laurie understands the sacrifices the veterans have made for our country. Laurie takes extra time to ease the patient's and the spouse's minds. Laurie is a great nurse who takes the time to listen to the Veterans and explains items in detail. Laurie is a great nurse; she tells the patients how it is. Willing to work with them and not against them. Thank you for taking the time to read this. Laurie is a Great Nurse!
