June 2019 Honoree
laurie keating foster, RN, MSN
Laurie rushed her colleague to the ED when her colleague began to feel ill while working. Her colleague is a known diabetic and was acting "off" but was declining to seek medical attention, saying "I'm fine, I'm fine." Laurie reassigned her colleague's assignment and brought her to the ER for assessment only to learn that her colleague's insulin pump had gone into complete failure and her colleague was rapidly entering DKA. Her colleague was quickly admitted to the ICU on an insulin drip. Her colleague nominated Laurie for saving her life by pushing her to get the medical attention that she needed. She feels that Laurie saved her life that day.
Thank you, Laurie, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
