Laurie is one of those special people who go above and beyond. I have been fortunate to work with Laurie at the Cancer Center for the past eight years, and during this time I have witnessed her commitment and dedication to those she serves and to our institution. Laurie is a nurse who is comfortable with multiple roles, and she can step in and out of each role whenever a need arises. Although this is not always easy to do, Laurie's flexibility and ability to adapt to change are some of the reasons she is an exceptional nurse.
Laurie also embraces activities and events that make the Breast Care Center an exceptional place for patients to receive care. She has been involved with some very important patient-related programs within our hospital; she helps to facilitate the support group for cancer survivors and for those currently receiving treatment. She has been involved with the free screening clinics, also known as "No Woman Left Behind", which offer exams to those who are uninsured. Laurie also assists the "Look Good-Feel Better" programs that help women build confidence about their appearance and cope with hair loss.
Laurie is one of the most helpful and dependable nurses at St. Joseph, and she is also one of the most caring persons I have known. I know this firsthand because I have personally called on her to assist with difficult situations, and she is always willing to lend a hand. I would also like to mention that Laurie will work in the infusion department at The Cancer Center when staffing is needed, but most importantly is the fact that Laurie does all of this with graciousness and a smile. Laurie puts patients at ease with her gentle caring manner and her high level of skill. Besides the fact that she is willing to go anywhere she is needed, she has a generous spirit and compassionate nature. She has a remarkable ability to listen; maintains a positive attitude during some of the most difficult times.
