We checked in just before morning shift change and spent most of our day with Laurie. We were immediately made to feel at home and put at ease with her years of experience.
We were comforted by her stories of her own children and grandchildren and learned that our doctor delivered her first grandchild. Laurie seemed dedicated to us throughout the day, and she seemed to be one step ahead, always informing us and setting our expectations.
This was particularly helpful in the evening shift change. Our new nurse was very thorough, but we did not have enough time to build a relationship with her, and all of Laurie's advice and foresight proved to be invaluable when it came to the time for us to start pushing. Even though we weren't close to our next cervix check and contractions point to look right on the monitor, we felt like we knew based on Laurie's knowledge and support that she gave us throughout the day.
