LaWanda Loken is the most outstanding Nurse Manager that I have ever worked with because she is truly an advocate for the nursing staff. She works diligently to provide the staff with essential equipment and supplies. You can really see that she cares about the staff and she has changed the morale of the Primary Care Clinic to a positive one, by starting the Sunshine Committee and encouraging the staff to continue education and she is there for you to help you succeed. I want her to know that her work has not gone unnoticed, and she is truly appreciated for being an outstanding Nurse Manager. May God Bless her and keep her striving to be a great advocate because we need more like her.
When I first started working in the Primary Care Clinic, it was not such a positive environment; but that changed when LaWanda became Acting Nurse Manager. She started the Sunshine Committee to boost morale and it worked because she started recognizing the staff for their accomplishments such as VA anniversaries, birthdays, promotions, etc. Whenever the staff needed something, whether it's equipment, supplies, or education needs, she got things done and I really appreciated that I felt taken care of. I noticed that the staff started to look happier and smile more. A lot of that was due to LaWanda getting things done for the staff and hiring new staff to help with the patient care load. We feel a sense of relief at work and that's a wonderful feeling and a reason to smile.
However, a lot of times, our Quiet Heroes do not get the recognition they deserve because they are busy taking care of everyone else. I nominated LaWanda because she is a Quiet Hero that deserves recognition. I want Lawanda to know that she is very appreciated and may God Bless her dearly.
