I owe Lawson my life. He saw that I was struggling to breathe when I came into the lobby, and he helped me. I never thought I'd see him again, and then he was my nurse when I was admitted. I'm very thankful for him.
I was walking downstairs through the main lobby one morning and noticed Lawson conversing with a visitor that was seated in a chair. Lawson proceeded to get on his knees and begin praying with the patient. I just knew he had to have known this man. He stopped his director and manager as they were passing by to inquire on how he could get the visitor some oxygen as he was feeling short of breath. The patient was here waiting for a port-a-cath placement that morning. They called to the OR and got the staff to come get him so that they could do an assessment on him. Lawson stayed with the patient until the OR staff was able to take him back. I didn’t know until later, but Lawson did not know this man whatsoever. He simply was on the way back up from breakfast and saw the patient in distress. Lawson stopped to check on the patient and found out that the patient had end-stage cancer and was feeling very short of breath. It really touched my heart to know that Lawson stopped to check on him and was humble enough to pray with him in public. Later that afternoon, we found out that the patient was unable to have his port placed and would be admitted to PCU for treatment, and Lawson was assigned to be his nurse. The patient could not have been more grateful that Lawson was his nurse. He mentioned multiple times during his stay how thankful he was for Lawson. "I owe Lawson my life. He saw that I was struggling to breathe when I came into the lobby, and he helped me. I never thought I'd see him again, and then he was my nurse when I was admitted. I'm very thankful for him. He's one of the good ones." Lawson deserves this DAISY award. He went above and beyond for this patient and truly made a difference in his life.
