September 2014 Honoree
lea nepomuceno, BSN, RN, CCRN
Lea recently cared for a patient with Guillain-Barre Syndrome who stayed in our unit for a very long time. She took care of this patient, his father, and significant others with a level of compassion and respect that went above and beyond. She would perform passive range of motion on this fully paralyzed patient while explaining to him and his family the importance of keeping his joints and muscles healthy. Lea, at the time, provided support and positive reinforcement to the patient for this debilitating condition day by day with a level of patience and commitment that I've only seen in a mother with her children. I cannot appreciate enough all the effort, commitment, and endurance Lea gave to this particular patient and family. On top of caring for the patient, she had a new orientee and taught the orientee with an unmeasurable amount of kindness and professionalism. She highlighted the mission and values of our institution and provided an outstanding level of care.
Thank you, Lea, for your exceptional compassion, advocacy, and dedication to your patients. You truly make a difference.
