My uncle died on Saturday. He had been in and out of Virtua Voorhees several times over the past two months. He had good care while he was there, but there were some people who deserve accolades. I wanted to call out extra special recognition to one particular nurse: Leah Barsky. She was cheerful, confident and went the extra mile on what ended up being his last day. She made sure that the looked his best, got him out of bed and tried to keep him comfortable. Once Leah noticed his status had changed a little, she called in the Dr. and they took steps immediately to make sure he was not distressed while trying to breathe. After he passed early in the morning, they called his son, and he came back to the hospital. The staff sent in coffee, danish and juice and gave him some precious time alone with his dad, which made a sad situation better. Hats off to PCU and especially to Leah.
