According to her nominator, Salwey cared for a young woman who was involved in a motor vehicle crash that resulted in the death of a family member. The patient "was obviously very scared, and Leah stayed with her and provided comfort as well as she could," her nominator says. "Leah learned that her patient wanted to be a nurse someday. Leah then shared with her patient that she was inspired to become a nurse after she had a car accident earlier in life."
As proof of her support and caring, Salwey gave her stethoscope to the patient as a gift that evening.
