My elderly father was admitted for cardiac tests. During an AM phone call with him, I noticed his speech was slurred. He confirmed that he didn't feel right. I expressed my concerns and his to his nurse who stated, "He seems fine to me." I got in my car and drove in; when I got there, Leah had taken over his care. For the first time, I felt like I was being heard. Leah immediately contacted the attending MD who came bedside. STAT neurology consult, STAT head CT, MRI all put into motion. Leah was instrumental in making this happen in a timely fashion. She made multiple phone calls and repeated efforts when the response was either unsatisfactory or untimely. She kept me and my dad informed at all times. I was beyond grateful for her being my dad's advocate. My family is so grateful for her taking the time to hear our concerns and act. MRI confirmed an acute stroke.
