She has given of herself not only to me but to all of the participants in our class. She is caring and concerned about all of us. It is not just a job to her.
What is a nurse? A nurse is the glue that holds a patient's healthcare journey together. A nurse has a fundamental respect for human dignity and an intuition for patient needs. I would like to nominate Leah for the DAISY Award because I believe that she is what a nurse should be. One year ago, I found out that I had to have coronary artery bypass surgery. This was very traumatic for me. After my discharge from the hospital, I found out that my cardiologist had referred me for follow-up in the Cardiac Wellness Program at WMH. Almost immediately when I got home, Leah contacted me to set up a time when I could come for an intake interview. Let me say that after the experience I had gone through, all I wanted was to be left alone. Nonetheless, I went to Woodland hospital. What a welcome surprise! Leah was warm, encouraging, supportive, and kind. I decided to try the program. One year later, I am reaping the benefits of the program. I owe my success to the encouragement and genuine caring of Leah. Anything I needed, she made it happen. She has given of herself not only to me but to all of the participants in our class. She is caring and concerned about all of us. It is not just a job to her. Never have I seen her without a smile, without a laugh, without a way to support all of us in our health journey. She means a lot to everyone in the program and she is a special person. She is, to me, the definition of what a nurse should be - kind, compassionate, encouraging, and supportive.
