My dad was admitted to the SICU after having a severe nosebleed that would not stop. He was on a ventilator for airway protection when we were told of the sudden and tragic diagnosis of terminal Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML). He was critical and required multiple procedures, surgeries and transfusions. Leann was one of our threads of continuity during a very unsettling time. She provided advocacy, kindness, reassurance, and compassion not only towards my dad but also to our entire family. Her skill and knowledge were apparent to me, as I am an ICU nurse myself. It was very clear that she went above and beyond what her job required. Leann moved with purpose, confidence, and intent. She was more than willing to accommodate our large family, allowing us to spend precious time with him before he passed away. Leann treated us all, and especially my dad, with the utmost respect and compassion. Amidst the shock and tragedy of losing this important man in our lives, Leann touched our hearts and will never be forgotten.
