LeAnne is an exceptional nurse in the PICU. She is highly valued team member who always goes above and beyond the call of duty. Besides being a staff nurse who is always a team player, she is also a charge nurse, ECMO specialist, CRRT super-user and teacher, preceptor, mentor and is always caring for our sickest little ones. LeAnne has been an incredible comfort to families by always offering them amazing support in tough situations.
Recently she had 2 patients pass away and both times she has stayed way past her shift to watch for the child after the parents left because she promised them she would stay with their sweet angels until they were picked up by the funeral homes. It takes a truly caring and special person to be trusted with someone's deceased child. Families and staff both admire her dedication to the children she helps take care of. She is incredibly compassionate and I am honored to not only call her my co-worker but also my friend.

This award could not have gone to a more deserving Wolfson nurse. LeAnne has impressive clinical skills, but more impressive are her gentle spirit, kindness and compassion. Always wanting to know more, be better, and go the extra mile, she leads by example. LeAnne's greatest strength is her ability to listen with more than her ears; she listens with her heart. She makes people (patients, families and co-workers) feel heard, understood and cared about.
Her nomination story was so moving. Imagine what it would take for a parent to be able to leave their child or grandchild, to walk away and not look back in fear or worry, to know that the child's sweet spirit and body would be cared for with the same love and tenderness that their parent or grandparent would have for them. What kind of a nurse could even do that, to willingly carry that burden? The amount of trust and love required is beyond what most people will ever know. How fortunate we are to have a nurse like LeAnne to set this amazing example of empathy, compassion and love. She embodies everything the DAISY Award represents.
