The family of a patient nominates LeeAnna Patterson, RN as a deserving recipient of the DAISY Award. They wrote:
We knew LeeAnna was special from the first moment we heard her voice. My niece and I were in C’s room and we heard her in another patient’s room which was directly across. Then she walked in our room and her beautiful smiling face matched her kind, caring, spirit.
LeeAnna’s professionalism, knowledge, and compassion were even further assurance to us that our loved one was in the best possible care. This special young lady explained what each medication was and the purpose for it; and it didn’t matter how many times we asked the same questions, she was always patient and said she was there for C and the “Familia” (family).
We don’t know of any other Nurse who even after her long 12-hour shift, or on her days off work, comes in to spend “Prayer Time” with a patient and the family. Wow! How amazing is that? Want to know what else is astonishing? The family was informed that C would not remember any of the ordeals she had gone through; and if she did, it would be small segments similar to a dream. Well, LeeAnna went to visit C at Kindred Hospital and when she walked in her room, C pointed at her and got all excited because she remembered her and said “I love you?” C was so happy to see her because LeeAnna was no stranger; she had become part of our family.
We will always be indebted to her, and are grateful for all that she continues to do for C, and for us, even after C was discharged from St. Luke’s ICU. For these reasons and many more; we nominate LeeAnna, an amazing young lady, for the DAISY Award.
