Leigh Ann was driving home from her ED shift this morning when she came across a rolled-over cement truck with the driver pinned inside near the interchange. She arrived before EMS and immediately took action to help the severely injured driver, applying tourniquets to his badly damaged legs to stop the bleeding (belts borrowed from other passersby). Leigh Ann stayed with the driver while waiting for EMS and kept him calm. “He told me, ‘I’m going to die’. I said, ‘No you’re not – you’re not going to die today. If I can get you to my hospital, you’re going to be OK.'” The man was taken to VH Medical Center where he is in stable condition.

We are so proud of Leigh Ann. She represents the best of emergency nursing – the ability to step up in the moment and provide the care needed- without hesitation. Her actions reflect the best of her profession, and she is a wonderful example of the kind of nurses who work at Valleywise! Way to go Leigh Ann!
