Leija has many qualities of a DAISY Nurse that we admire and strive to replicate. Leija always comes to work ready to work and is vital in the role of the flex nurse. Leija will jump in and help out without hesitation at all times. She is often the first staff member in a room to help with a transfer when a patient arrives at the unit, even if she is not the primary nurse for that patient. She is frequently seen answering call lights and always responds to overhead alarms and is a great support to staff members.
As the flex nurse, Leija is often relied upon when RNs are overwhelmed and need help with tasks and is an exemplary team player. She never complains about her patient assignment, nor the ever-changing workload of the flex RN. Leija is knowledgeable, approachable, and a great resource; whether it be clinical or clerical, Leija knows the answer. She is committed to our unit, the patients, and her coworkers.
Leija takes time and invests in her patients, making them and their family members feel comfortable and confident in her care. She carefully communicates to her patients making sure they always understand their plan of care, is thorough in her assessment, and advocates for her patients and their safety. She always displays kindness and empathy and clearly enjoys bedside nursing. Often times, patients can be overheard laughing along with Leija, forming bonds with them to make them feel at ease during vulnerable times.
Leija is an effective educator and precepts new grad RNs on the unit as well as trains RNs in sheath pulling. As a preceptor, Leija is supportive, encouraging, informative, and uplifting. Furthermore, Leija is fun to work with. We always enjoy shifts when Leija is working as she is patient, kind, and respectful in all of her interactions with staff and patients. Leija is a positive contribution 4SE and we feel lucky to work with such a dedicated, hard-working DAISY Nurse! Congratulations on your DAISY Award Leija!
