Due to unavoidable overload in the ER and hospital, my husband was in the ER for nearly 27 hours before being admitted to the floor. A mere 10 hours later I get a call that I should come up because he is being discharged. To say that news had me concerned would be an understatement.
Luckily, my husband's nurse Leilla found time to speak to me and my mother over the phone. She explained how it had been determined that he was ready to go home and answered all our questions and concerns. When I arrived to pick up my husband, she also made time to review all of my husband's discharge instructions as well as answer additional questions that came up. She went out of her way to have someone come and discuss Living Wills and Advance Directives with us. She really helped ease my concerns and explained where the doctors were coming from. She also affirmed that she understood my concerns and where they were coming from.
I truly appreciate Leilla's willingness to empathize, inform, and educate without making me feel bad about it or simply dismissing me. She is a top-notch professional and I cannot thank her enough.
