I recently underwent a 6-hour surgery for a benign pancreatic tumor. After recovery, I was placed on this marvelous unit where I was blessed to be attended by the most wonderful staff. All the nurses were nice, compassionate, and very professional, but there always exists that one person who goes above and beyond in displaying excellence.

Leisy is a nurse who exhibits a high level of professionalism and understanding for the 3 consecutive days Leisy cared for me. She knew how to help alleviate my post-surgical pain, knew how to manage all my symptoms, and was able to be proactive to ensure I recuperated well. She noticed I was not breathing correctly. Leisy auscultated me and paid close attention to my vital signs each night, and although I know this is part of the job and her responsibility, she did it with such excellence. Every time my saturation would decrease, she would immediately place me on oxygen. Leisy also helped motivate me with love and patience. For all these things and more, I feel Leisy meets all the criteria of the DAISY Award. My family and I are impressed with this unit and its nurses, especially Leisy. I hope she is considered for this award for her humanity, compassion, professionalism, and nursing technical abilities.
