I was first introduced to Lena the day following J's admission. I could immediately tell that she was a cut above the rest. (J has had 4 inpatient stays in the past 7 months, so I have met many of the nurses of this floor.) She was attentive to details, exhibited kindness and patience when I frequently asked a question or needed a more in-depth explanation of something. I witnessed her educating other staff members reflecting her knowledge and expertise - always in a respectful manner. She happily checked on several things for the patient that actually wasn't technically her responsibility. What furthermore impressed me was a situation I witnessed when a high-level staff from a completely different department entering the room and seeing Lena and exclaiming, "I am so glad YOU are here, you know what you are doing...this is a smart lady. Can I consult with you the rest of the week?" Lena is exceptional you are blessed to have her on your team!
