When the DAISY Award was established, I truly believe that Lena was waiting in the wings. The first day I worked with her, many years ago (around 8 to 10 years), I knew she was a special kind of nurse. I could spend time talking about her outstanding Banner Core Values. I could spend time talking about her leadership and nursing skills. However, I want to talk about her "glow". Lena always has that smile and disposition that make everyone around her "glow". Many of our nurses are very approachable.
Lena however elevates her kindness, glow, and approachability. I always wonder how she can keep these qualities while working nights. Our night staff are the cream of the crop. They work the line while the day shifters sleep. I thank them for this. By the way, outside of work, Lena and her family treat me like a member of their family. Please bestow this beautiful award to one of our outstanding and loving nurses. I know our patients, family members, physicians, and fellow staff will be happy for this nurse.
