Lenny worked tirelessly to make my Dad’s last hours comfortable as he also cared for my Mom and brother.
You have to see Lenny in action and be a patient of his to truly experience his compassion empathy and dedication to his patients and their families. With that here is our Lenny story. In mid-February our 80 –year-old Dad was a patient in Cape Coral Hospital for over 2 weeks. He came in through the ER ambulatory and alert suffering from "Long hauler" COVID Symptoms exacerbating his underlying respiratory issues. As his treatment for pneumonia and pulmonary emboli continued so did his healthcare roller coaster. He was not improving and Lenny was the calm, knowledgeable, and compassionate angel in scrubs who was there for my Dad. As confusion set in with hypoxia my Dad would say, "Lenny I don't feel like myself, I feel confused." Lenny knelt down at my Dad's bedside, looked him directly in the eyes, listened to him, and explained the physiological issues to my Mom articulately in understandable, non-medical language. He took time to assess changes compassionately and calmly, caring for my dad who was clearly in a medical crisis. He assured all of my Dad's needs were met as he was transferred to ICU.
As my Dad was transferred back to the floor his health waxed and waned. By no coincidence, Lenny was the last nurse assigned to him on the floor. He worked tirelessly to make my Dad’s last hours comfortable as he also cared for my Mom and brother. He was genuine in his attention and support of all of them as they went through their own emotional and exhausting roller coaster of losing a husband and father. He gave them the time they needed to pray and say their last goodbyes. This nomination could never capture how remarkable Lenny is. He is an asset to the nursing profession and if he ever wants to move to Buffalo I would hire him at my hospital in a millisecond! He is such a special person. Cape Coral Hospital and its patients are very lucky to have Lenny on staff.
