He stayed with me, making sure I knew each thing he did and helped put my mind at ease.
After asking someone and learning what this award means, I realized there’s one person that stands out and should be recognized for it. The transport nurse Lenny was incredible for many reasons. The most important one was that he cares. After doing my blood pressure, my nurse told me it was a little low, and my heartbeat was fast, so a ton of people were going to come to help just so I wouldn’t freak out. She wasn’t kidding. The room was filled with people. Lenny stood out because you could tell he really cared. He introduced himself to me right away and explained every little thing he did, like how he was going to put in an IV and put a bunch of wires on to keep an eye on my heart rate and blood pressure. He explained even the little things, like how he was going to raise the bed just so I wasn’t caught off guard. Most of the others that came in barely introduced themselves, spoke among themselves, and left before I could ask questions, but he stayed with me, making sure I knew each thing he did and helped put my mind at ease. Not only that, he cleaned the mess everyone left in my bed, covered me back up, and wiped all the gel stuff that they left on my chest. When someone told me I was going to have to move to intensive care I didn’t know what to think and was scared. Lenny helped keep me calm and even made me laugh a bit, which I wouldn’t have thought possible in an emergency. He clearly understands that the most important thing during a stressful situation is not only the medicine but also the person sitting in this bed who just wants to feel understood.
