Leslee demonstrated exceptional dedication in the care of a patient who was hospitalized for an extended period with a serious diagnosis. During the patient’s stay, she worked closely with a surgeon to secure a transfer to a facility that could offer surgical options unavailable at our organization. Throughout this process, Leslee provided outstanding support to both the patient and her family.
After the patient improved and returned home, patient required long-term TPN to survive. However, the treatment was not covered by insurance and would cost approximately $1,000 per week. Despite the family’s attempts to appeal, they were told it was not covered under their policy. In their time of need, they turned to Leslee.
Although the patient was no longer under our care, Leslee remained committed to helping. She persistently contacted the insurance company, facing repeated denials, and continued advocating on the patient’s behalf. She maintained consistent communication with the family—often late into the evening—providing updates, guidance, and reassurance. Working alongside the surgeon, who submitted two appeal letters, Leslee continued to push for approval.
After nearly a week of relentless effort, the treatment was approved. Leslee’s perseverance, compassion, and refusal to accept “no” made a life-saving difference for this patient. Her actions exemplify true patient advocacy and go well beyond expectations.
