You can absolutely see her calling to Peds in the way that she interacts with her patients/families, and we are so thankful that we were blessed to have Lesley's care during our stay.
My 4-year-old son was admitted to the Peds unit with a diagnosis of RSV. We were blessed to have Lesley as our primary nurse multiple times during our stay. Our son was maxed out on high-flow O2 and was having difficulty speaking due to severe shortness of breath. He was so scared he wouldn’t even look in the direction of any of the staff, but Lesley was persistent with her smile and gentle reassurance. She gained not only his trust but ours.
Both my husband and I are nurses, which makes it difficult to be on the other side and see our son as a patient. Our specialty is not pediatrics, but Leslie answered all of our questions and not only made us feel confident in the care that she was providing but also made us feel confident that we knew what was best for our son. She brought games and played catch with him, which made him laugh for the first time in days. She went out of her way to find his favorite snacks when we couldn’t get him to eat. Most importantly, she helped us advocate for our son when we felt he had been on a continuous nebulizer too long without significant improvement, and we wanted to suggest trying hypertonic saline instead.
