I feel like often in the ER we are so busy we feel as though we don't make a difference. Today Leslie had a patient who was a sick single mother of 4 and 6-year-old children. The patient had no support and no one who could come take care of her children. CPS was consulted and placement was found for the children. On Leslie's lunch break, she went to Wal-Mart and bought the kids $120 worth of clothes so they could have fresh clothes at the foster home. I'm sure that mom is grateful to know that a nurse cared enough to go spend her money on a stranger's kids. Not only that, but it helped remind me that some people still do simple acts of kindness for others for no reason other than to help them.
