Leslie Gailiunas, BSN RN
Our dad has been staying in the hospital for more than two weeks now. He is a dialysis patient with a couple of complications, including difficulty eating and swallowing. It has been an emotional and unpredictable journey for our family, as we never quite know what to expect from day to day. Everything has felt new and, at times, frightening as we watch him go through these health challenges.
Through it all, Nurse Leslie has been working tirelessly and with great dedication to help both my dad and our family understand his condition and the decisions involved. She patiently explains things to us, sometimes more than once, until we fully understand. Above all, her priority has always been my dad's comfort and well-being.
She has also shown genuine concern for our family, acknowledging the emotional and physical toll this experience has taken on us. My mom has been there every day, and I have seen firsthand how kindly and patiently Nurse Leslie treats her and takes the time to explain everything clearly.
We hope to see her when she is on shift. It is clear she truly cares for my dad, and I often find myself wanting to thank her personally whenever we do see her. Her knowledge, skill, and compassion are evident in everything she does.
One example of her thoughtfulness was when she went above and beyond to find and bring my dad a fidget blanket to help calm his restless hands and fingers. That small but meaningful gesture made a real difference in his comfort.
