My cancer diagnosis caught me completely off guard. I was in a dark place with no light at the end of the tunnel when I started treatment. Things got much worse when I lost my hair and then later my eyebrows and lashes. I had no confidence at all. Leslie Magrew talked with me through my infusions to help me become more at ease and reassure me that I could do this! After I lost my hair, she was sensitive to my lack of confidence and regularly told me I was beautiful and helped me look at things differently; she said hair usually comes in thicker, lashes could grow longer, etc. She gave me hope and so many smiles through the hardest time of my life. She went beyond being a nurse; Leslie was a human and showed me the exact amount of empathy I needed to finally beat that cancer. I was actually sad when I rang my last bell because I wouldn't regularly see my cheerleader. Nursing school can't teach someone to treat patients the way Leslie treated me. I will never forget her!
