Leslie went above and beyond to provide a once-in-a-lifetime experience for one of our younger patients in June 2024.

Unit 6A at Bayhealth Sussex had the pleasure of caring for a young man who had been battling an aggressive case of Ewing's sarcoma. Leslie Merrell was taking care of this specific patient on Father's Day. This was no ordinary day for the patient; it was his first Father's Day as a parent of an eight-month-old baby. Seeing the importance of this day, Leslie took the time out of her busy day to arrange a safe and private hospital visit for the patient to see his wife and infant. She initiated the communication and planning for this experience and even personally transported the patient to a private location in the hospital, giving him the opportunity to physically love and hold onto his baby. Leslie provided the patient with an experience that he could have easily missed out on due to his condition, a moment that could never be repeated in a lifetime.
