LeToya Washington, RN

A couple of weeks ago I was consulted to a family on Mother Baby who was suffering the death of their newborn. LeToya was the RN assigned to the family, and as I worked with the family, I witnessed exceptional nursing from LeToya. She exhibited calm professionalism, genuine compassion, and an unmatched level of care. LeToya cared for the whole family. By that, I mean not only Mom and Dad and the grieving visitors; I mean that she cared for them physically, emotionally, and soulfully. LeToya called upon resources like Child Life, Pastoral and Leadership to provide well-rounded care. During one particularly memorable moment, I witnessed LeToya sitting on the edge of the bed and simply holding the weeping mother. She was there for them. This is what exceptional nursing looks like.

We had our daughter and lost her shortly after birth to a rare medical condition. LeToya went above and beyond to make sure our family was taken care of. She never skipped a beat. She took us in and made us feel like family. She held me while I cried, gave my two other babies the sweetest love and warmest welcome. I couldn’t have asked for a better person to be our caregiver for our entire stay. She made the most horrible days, bearable.
