Lexie took it upon herself to call the business and arrange for a hairstylist to come up and give the patient a haircut in his room.
Lexie Fitch is one of the Medical ICU nurses who joined our team after the Spring 2020 Internship. She has shown herself to be very thoughtful in the care she provides for the patients in the Medical ICU. We would like to recognize her for displaying the “Service is Our Passion” culture that UMC is know for.

MICU had a patient who was on our unit for over 70 days who has had an incredibly difficult journey on his road to recovery. Because of his extended hospitalization, many of our staff have gotten to know him and his family very well. One of the patient’s favorite nurses was Lexie. He stated, “She pushes me and doesn’t let me give up!” Lexie and the patient had gotten to know each other well over their multiple shifts together. One shift when Lexie got this patient back, a family member stated, “Oh, good, it’s Lexie!” Through normal conversation, the patient’s family members then mentioned how long his hair had been getting throughout his stay. It was a simple comment, but Lexi decided to probe and asked where her patient typically received his hair cuts from. Lexie then took it upon herself to call the business and arrange for a hairstylist to come up and give the patient a haircut in his room. Lexie made sure that she got approval and that the hair stylist did not count towards the patient’s daily visitors. Lexie really impressed everyone by going above and beyond in the compassionate care she provides. Not only did she pay for the haircut and set it up, but she even cleaned up everything afterward.

This may seem like a small gesture, but in a world made so complicated by the COVID pandemic, Lexie really came through. Thank you, Lexie, for continually doing what you do!
