I just delivered my son would love to share my experience with one amazing nurse. First some back story; I was diagnosed with preeclampsia and had to do non-stress tests on the baby twice a week. The baby always failed and required the ultrasound for scoring to follow.
One morning I didn't feel the baby move as much so we were seen in their OB ER triage. The baby scored super low on the ultrasound, so they decided to do a C-section at 36 weeks + 2 days. Every nurse that took care of us post-partum was absolutely amazing, but this one nurse truly stood out from the rest. Her name is Lianna Leschinsky.
Our baby had super low blood sugars and horrible IV access that they had to get a line through his umbilical vein. This was heart-wrenching because we weren't allowed to pick him up and hold him. Lianna was on shift our second night in the hospital. She was so kind to us but especially made my son feel loved. She swaddled him and was so gentle with holding him near her chest. Little did she know that as his mother I was so happy he was getting the love and attention he deserved. She didn't ask if we needed her to do it, she just poured out her love these babies she takes care of. She would sing and hum and have small conversations with him. She won my heart over that night for sure! But, it gets better.
Almost one week later she was our night nurse again. I wasn't feeling well and was re-admitted for possible preeclampsia and had to do the magnesium drip. Luckily, the room they put me in conjoined to the room we had been staying in for my son. However, all at the same time of me getting readmitted and my husband trying to get baby down for bed, the nurses had an emergency coming in and needed my husband to move all our stuff out of the baby's room and into the room I was staying in. My poor husband had been taking care of the baby for most of the afternoon and into the evening while I was off receiving care for the symptoms I was experiencing. He was pretty stressed out and exhausted.
Lianna offered to feed our baby in the middle of the night so he could sleep. My husband thanked her for the offer but kindly refused. Well, 3 am feed comes around and I can't get my husband to arouse from sleep and at the same time Lianna came in with the milk to feed the baby. I told her that he was so exhausted that he slept through me hollering his name. He decided it was smart to go ahead and rest.
She changed baby, fed him, sang to him, and just loved all over him. She even washed my breast pump supplies since I was on the magnesium drip and felt so sick. This woman has the most amazing patient care and is the best nurse I have ever met. She is so selfless and goes above and beyond for her babies and their parents. It's nice to get to share some gratitude for the amazing work these nurses provide!
