Libby’s kindness, selflessness, and ability to advocate for her patients is a benchmark all Nurses should strive to possess. Libby continuously displays professionalism and dignity to our vulnerable patients and their families.
One busy Sunday afternoon, an older gentleman arrived on the unit in a wheelchair to see his son, who was a patient. Libby swiftly stands to her feet, introduces herself to the gentleman, and wheels him into his son’s room. With the patient’s permission, Libby began telling the father about his son’s condition. With compassion and respect for the patient, she wheeled the father into the hall and knelt down at his feet. She explained in great detail the complexity of liver failure. As the father listened, tears were streaming down his face. Libby was prepared and handed the man a box of tissues as she continued to offer support. Libby is always a step ahead. Libby took the time to show compassion, love, and listen to a hurting father. Thank you, Libby, for “caring like crazy” and taking the time to go the extra mile.
