Lilia treated me as if I was just as important as my wife and son.
My wife had a c-section late in the afternoon and was later moved to the mother-baby unit where Lilia was working the night shift. She was tasked with taking care of my wife and newborn son. I like to think that I have a fairly well-rounded set of practical skills, however, I quickly realized I had no idea how to swaddle a baby, change a diaper or do anything related to the care of a newborn. This realization combined with lack of sleep and 16 hours without a full meal, suddenly made me extremely anxious. I verbalized this to Lilia, and she instructed me to relax and informed me that this wasn't particularly difficult. She did a lot to calm my nerves that night and I'm sure she wasn't anticipating having a third patient that evening, but she treated me as if I was just as important as my wife and son. Lilia is an expert at the art of small talk and helped distract us from the life-changing event that happened earlier that day. She maintained a professional and sunny disposition throughout her shift, even at 3:00 AM. During our entire stay at the hospital, Lilia provided us with prompt and excellent care making her very deserving of this DAISY Award.
