Linda was assigned to be my father's nurse recently. He came to the ICU and was apprehensive and scared. Linda immediately connected with him and earned his trust. During the next couple of days, she joked with him, comforted him and encouraged him. This helped lift his spirit and gave him hope. However, what impressed me the most was when my father began to have chest pain one day during lunch. She responded immediately and was calm and comforting. It was clear she knew exactly what to do and followed appropriate procedures. When things did not work, she reached out to the attending physician on-call for guidance. All the while she kept my father and family informed about what was happening, what was going to happen and why. Tests were run and medicine was given, but his pain persisted. Linda listened to my father and alerted the doctor about her concerns, a CT scan was ordered. The results of the test came back and it was discovered my father had developed a pulmonary embolism in his right lung, right where the pain had been. I truly believe that Linda's instincts were vital in finding this and it saved his life. He has since moved to another area of the hospital and she continues to check on him from time to time. She truly cares about her patients and wants to ensure they receive a remarkable patient experience. She is a blessing to those that receive her care and is an asset to your organization.
