I am writing to nominate Nurse Linda for The DAISY Award. She is an exemplary RN and deserves recognition. Yesterday, we had a very difficult care patient. The patient only spoke Spanish. She was completely without insurance with a very serious diagnosis. Linda used her own experience to gain the patient’s trust. She utilized a translator to provide hours of cardiac and diabetic education in the patient's chosen language. She made sure the patient knew how to use a translation application on her phone so she would be able to understand medical directives once she left the hospital. She provided the patient with community resources so the patient could follow up with doctors/healthcare centers for free healthcare and medications. She wrote out prescription information in Spanish so the patient understood how to take her meds appropriately.
