On many occasions, I have witnessed patients waiting for a doctor and sitting patiently to do so. As a staff for the VA, I am constantly asked about where to eat or get vouchers for food as they have fasted for their appointments. Nurse Linda Showell has come to many veterans' rescues on several occasions without been being asked. I personally watched as a vet appeared to be faint and she quickly picked up on this. She volunteered her own funds to buy food and a drink for that vet while he waited. Her quick thinking allowed for a potential situation to be quelled. Later that day, that same vet saw me and asked the nurse's name so he could thank her as he did not have any funds and she was so kind to ensure that he had something to eat. This kind of care extends beyond the normal and she truly deserves to be recognized. She goes beyond the norm with her attention to detail, even to those who are not assigned to her panel of patients. I know that she checks on patients and visitors even beyond the borders of Primary Care as she has assisted persons in the hallways, elevators, and even outside in the parking lot, with no accolades expected. I feel she is so deserving of recognition for her kindness, attentiveness, and willingness to go above and beyond for patients, staff, and visitors.
