To receive care like that from someone I work alongside is humbling, beautify and profoundly meaningful.
I would like to recognize Linda Griffith for the exceptional compassion, professionalism, and heart she showed when I was admitted to the ICU. I have always known Linda was a talented nurse. But the care she gave me during a frightening health crisis showed me just how extraordinary she truly is.
I was admitted with severe hypocalcemia and excruciating muscle spasms that left me frightened, exhausted, and completely vulnerable. The pain was intense and unpredictable, and as a nurse myself, I struggled with the fear and loss of control that came with being in that bed. She recognized that immediately and responded with a level of compassion and dedication that went far beyond duty.
During each wave of painful spasms, she stayed right at my bedside, never rushing, never showing frustration, never making me feel like a burden. She gently rubbed out each spasm as best as she could, easing the pain in any way possible, and spoke to me in a calm, reassuring voice that grounded me when I felt overwhelmed. Her presence alone brought me comfort, but her willingness to physically work through each spasm with me showed a depth of empathy and commitment that I will never forget.
What stands out the most is how she made me feel safe during moments when I was terrified. She treated me not just like a patient, but as a respected coworker, someone she cared for with genuine compassion and dignity, just as I witnessed every time she entered a patient's room on the floor. She understood the emotional complexity of a nurse becoming the patient and supported me through it with grace and kindness.
Watching her in action filled me with pride. She embodies everything we hope for in nursing: skill, presence, advocacy, and unwavering compassion. To receive care like that from someone I work alongside is humbling, beautify and profoundly meaningful. Her care turned one of the worst days into one where I felt supported, safe, and seen.
She is everything the DAISY Award represents, and I cannot imagine a more deserving nurse than Linda Griffith, LPN.
