Love will always find a way. For one couple, that "way" was a special nurse who showed compassion during a difficult situation. Recently, a married couple was admitted to different units at SSM Health DePaul Hospital on the same day. It had been two days since the couple had seen each other and the wife wanted to visit her husband. Bringing them together was no simple feat, though. It had been less than 12 hours since the wife had surgery to repair her fracture and the unit was short-staffed.
Linda Henning, an orthopedic nurse at SSM Health DePaul Hospital, was the wife's nurse. She was determined to not let these obstacles keep the couple apart. With help and support from her night shift colleagues, Linda assisted her patient into a wheelchair and took her to see her husband before the day shift began. She also stopped to get a comb and brushed the patient's hair to prepare her to see her husband.
According to a witness, the patient was appreciative of the gesture and Linda's willingness to facilitate the visit despite all of the obstacles in their way. Linda is a DAISY Nurse for the kindness and compassion she showed toward her patient.
