Linda went above and beyond in a difficult situation. We had a patient who had been receiving care on our unit. He decided to pursue comfort measures for himself, knowing he would not get better. This was very upsetting for his family, and they refused to stay with him while he passed away. Linda, as charge nurse, made sure staff was present at all times so this patient would not die alone, and not only that, she contacted the family multiple times in order to give them the opportunity to return if they wished. The situation was so heartbreaking, but she found a way to take a broken situation and make it as 'whole' as possible for the patient.
