I nominate Linda Mabel for the DAISY Award for her incredible display of compassion and patient advocacy. One morning while working in the ICU she lightened the sedation on a vented patient only to have the patient mouth to her that she did not want "the tube." The patient's family had requested all measures be taken to sustain her life the night before when the patient began to deteriorate. Linda had the patient write a note expressing her wishes. The patient wrote 2 notes, one asking to die and the other saying she did not want "the tube" anymore. Linda talked with the physician and the patient's family. Even though the decision to honor their mother's wishes was not easy, Linda ensured the patient's wishes were granted.
